My Guide to Dry Skin

I truly think there is nothing worse than dry skin. Okay, maybe I can think of a few things that are worse but you get where I’m coming from. Its frustrating, and it inevitably ruins the rest of your day having to deal with it.

Come winter, my skin likes to forget everything it knew about staying moisturised and nourished. This winter it’s been worse than ever, and only recently I’ve began to get it under control again and I figured I should share what I do.

So, here is a list of some of the products I use and how I use them to help my skin stay well nourished and happy.

  1.  Scrubs, scrubs, and more scrubs.

One of my favourite things to use is scrubs. They aren’t specifically targeted to people with dry skin, but they do wonders to rid your face of old and flaky skin. The products I find myself reaching for the most are ones by St. Ives. Their fresh skin apricot scrub’ always leaves my skin super smooth and refreshed. It is definitely a deep cleanse, so it is only recommended you use it three times a week.

If you were looking for something a little gentler, St. Ives ‘green tea scrub’ would be ideal for someone with sensitive skin. I still find that it helps clear any dry skin I may have on my face, just not as harshly as their apricot one. It also helps clear any redness and blackheads you may have, which is always an added bonus.

2. Toners.

After using a scrub in the shower, to refresh my skin I like to use a toner. My favourite one is Nivea’s ‘refreshing toner’. It never fails to help calm the redness I get after showers and helps restore the moisture in my skin.

I simply deposit some of it onto a cotton pad then swipe it over my face after I get out of the shower at night.

3. Rosehip oil.

I feel like everyone already knows about rosehip oil, but I’m here to let you know about it again. This product is my holy grail and I honestly don’t know how I lived my life without it. I only discovered it about a two months ago, and after using it every night since there has been massive improvements in the quality of my skin. Not only does it help aid with dry skin, but I’ve found it’s been clearing my acne scars which is a big plus in my books.

I use the brand ‘Essano’, applying seven drops (as directed) all over my face then massaging it in. I like to give it a minute or two to settle into my skin before applying my moisturiser.

Just a tip: I have found that applying this before I do my makeup makes it look patchy and streaky so I would just be weary of this!

4. Moisturiser.

The final step in my skin care routine is to apply moisturiser. I find this the most important part to help my skin maintain nourishment, as you cam imagine.

There are a million different kinds of moisturisers, and countless different brands and the hard part is trying to find one that works for you. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve tried. I have, however, found a couple that work for me.

The first one is Simple’s ‘hydrating light moisturiser’. This is perfect for hydrating your skin right before you apply makeup. It has a very light formula that sinks into your skin beautifully and I would definitely recommend it.

The second one is Nivea’s ‘rich generating night cream’. I like to use this to top off my skincare routine of a night. It has a much thicker formula than Simple’s one, however it’s perfect for throwing on for over-night regeneration.

Skincare can be a tricky thing to get a hold of, but once you find the right products that work for you, it isn’t so bad. I’d like to state that I am in no way a professional when it comes to skincare, this is just what I’ve found works best for me and I figured I should share it for anyone else who may be having similar problems to me.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, and found it helpful.

My Top 5 Beauty Picks

If there’s one thing that I can’t help but gravitate towards at the shops, its makeup and skincare products. No matter what shop I’m in, I always feel the need to stop and look at the selection they have. After all, I’m always up for trying new things.

Because of this, I’ve accumulated my fair share of products and I thought I’d share with you all my top 5 favourite makeup and skincare products!

  1. The Body Shop’s ‘Liquid Peel’

This is by far the strangest product I  have ever tried. One afternoon I had gone into The Body Shop for a new face mask and I left with this instead. I thought it was completely amazing and something that I had never tried before.

What it is essentially, is an exfoliate but in gel form. As you massage it into your skin, it turns into a peel that is super gentle and perfect for removing dead skin cells and leaving your skin feeling smooth and fresh.

You can find it here!

2. Maybelline’s ‘Fit Me Concealer’

This has been a highly talked about product this year, and for good reason. For a drugstore brand, this is a beautiful concealer that is incredibly high coverage.

I’d picked up this little beauty one day in a rush, not really thinking about it and trying to find the cheapest one. Once I got the chance to really sit down and play with it, I was pleasantly surprised. For $15, you really can’t go wrong. As I stated before, it’s high coverage and not only that but it blends beautifully and I find it settles into my skin wonderfully.

So, if your looking for a new concealer and haven’t yet given this one a chance, I’d highly recommend it.

3. Lush’s ‘Cup O’ Coffee’ Face and Body Mask

I’m, quite literally, addicted to this face mask. Lush have some amazing products but this one tops them all for me. This mask really does the job to wake you up, and leave your face feeling extra smooth and exfoliated.

If you’re a coffee lover, you’ll love the smell too. It has a very rich coffee and cocoa sent that is to die for. I’m personally not a fan of coffee myself, however I still love the smell of this product.

If your a face mask addict like I am, this one definitely deserves a place in your collection! You can find it here!

4. Frank Body’s ‘coffee scrub’

(I didn’t have this product on me to be able to take my own photos, so this was taken from Frank Body’s website!)

This brands products are hands down amazing. For all the one’s I’ve tried, I haven’t had a problem with any of them. My favourite, however, is their coffee body scrubs.

Not only are these scrubs super affordable, in my opinion, but they’re vegan too! Oh, and they leave your skin feeling pretty great after you use it as well, which is always a plus! If you haven’t tried Frank Body’s products, may this be a push for you to. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

You can find this product here!

5. NYX’s ‘Soft Matte Lip Creams’

IMG_5964.JPG

Last but not least, my final product is lipstick! These NYX ones were actually the first lipsticks I ever brought. I formally never really liked lipstick until last year, until I decided to give these a go.

Not only is the colour pay off amazing, but they are unbelievably light on your lips, making it feel like you aren’t wearing anything at all. They may not stand the test of time quite like, perhaps, a Kat Von D liquid lipstick but they’re pretty great no less. They go on silky smooth and they look beautiful on your lips.

So, that’s it for today’s blog post! I hope you’ve enjoyed, and found a new product that you haven’t tried before.
